About Pragmatex

Pragmatex was formed by three like-minded individuals who are passionate about delivering innovation. The directors were brought together by the DfT-funded Future Railway initiative hosted by the RSSB. Once there, they helped guide and deliver an unprecedented suite of innovation programmes, initiatives and competitions on behalf of the railway industry.

These included designing and hosting a series of co-funded and grant-based competitions that generated a £100m portfolio of ground-breaking projects, the £50m Innovation in railway Franchising initiative, and core support for the programme formulation and direction of the initial Railway Technical Strategy, originally published as a high-level vision in 2012.

Too often, the founders realised that despite these industry-level initiatives, support for innovation was often incomplete, and risked leaving innovators without an obvious or timely route to market.

Beyond seed funding and hard work, transitioning cutting-edge technology to the marketplace needs a great team, a sound commercial proposition, and above all, a pragmatic and flexible mindset. Pragmatex was born from our experiences of helping others achieve this.

We have worked for and with every type and size of organisation, helping solve challenges for bleeding-edge start-ups, small innovative companies, international corporations, academia and government.
